How to clean your and repair your washing machine

While your washing machine is constantly washing all of the clothes that you wear on a daily basis

it too, on occasion, needs to be cleaned itself. So how do you get started with cleaning your washing machine. Firstly you will need the following tools/instruments:

Scouring pad
Old Tooth brush
Espom Salts
Kitchen Detergents
Microfiber cloth
Sponge
Long handed brush
Miracle spray

So how do I clean my washing machine?

When you have gathered the required instruments your first step will be to:

Clean and wipe around the top of the washing machines barrel firstly with the sponge soaked in kitchen detergent. Getting in under all the rims you can reach will ensure that the cleaning is thorough. I normally use a tooth brush to get into the grooves and wipe away with a sponge or microfiber cloth.

Wiping away on the outside of the agitator with a non scratch scouring pad will help to remove any built up grime. If you can reach and get inside the agitator, use a brush with a long handle and with a rounded head to scrub.

Wipe under the lid of the machine with Miracle Spray and close it. Wiping the top of the lid and the control panel will make sure that the exterior of the washing machine has been left spick and span.

Put a small box of Espom Salts into the washing machine and select the longest hot water cycle. Let the washing machine go through the cycle to clean everything inside.

How often should I do this?

Doing this a couple of times a year will help prevent gunk build up in the pipes.

Let's say that you have a front loading washing machine, you will need to pay extra attention to the door and its seals they harbour germs and grime, cleaning these areas with vinegar can help with this problem. Keeping the main door slightly ajar when not in use is also advised to stop mould from building up.
